Hello Martin, I tried your tutorial with Rails 2.0.2(for project specific purposes) configuration without setting up the middleware, I have pretty much set up everything. I am currently alternating between IO Error and HTTP Error. I also didn't have a built in session_store.rb with the Rails frame work I was using(just to add this info, as it is worth mentioning)

I have a strong feeling that Rack Middleware is not supported for the Rails version I am using, I actually had authenticity issues when I tried valums ajax file upload plugin, but by just commenting one line in the request_forgery_protection.rb things seemed to work for me..atleast on the javascript side/part of it..

Is there any other solution other than using Rack Middleware..?

There again I ran into issues connecting paperclip with valums, there also Rack Middleware was used to deal with its case(same roadblock).
